Dr. Blane Richardson is double boarded in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He specializes in a combined approach of nonoperative interventional techniques with medical and conservative therapy for chronic pain patients. His focus has been primarily on spinal therapy but the scope of practice has expanded dramatically over the last 10 years. He treats a multitude of pain syndromes ranging from acute musculoskeletal injuries to chronic neuropathic pain and anything in between. His primary goal is to improve both your pain and functionality to allow patients to regain a strong quality of life without turning to medications for long term dependence.
Dr. Richardson grew up in Kentucky but went to neighboring Tennessee for college at Vanderbilt. His path to medical school was somewhat unusual. Initially graduating with a degree and a plan for advertising, he learned many life lessons in several different fields of employment other than medicine, however, he eventually got the calling and focused on taking care of people later in life. He completed his premedical requirements at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. After completing medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada, he began an internship in Internal Medicine at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Massachusetts and a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Richardson has been practicing pain management in Charleston, South Carolina, for over 18 years. He has grown the scope of practice to include a variety of therapies from non-invasive topical and oral therapies to minimally invasive surgical procedures that focus on pain reduction and functional improvement. He works hard to get you back to the life you want and desire.
