Terrance L. Hughes, M.D. is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with over 20 years of experience providing innovative non-surgical treatments for patients who suffer from spine and musculoskeletal pain. He is excited to join Summit Spine as he continues to serve those patients who need help. As an international seasoned physiatrist, Dr. Hughes believes in treating patients holistically with an emphasis on routine exercise, proper nutrition, and good sleeping habits which can help many patients decrease pain and improve their quality of life. His role in this process is to invest time understanding and evaluating each patient’s individual needs and lifestyle. Then he to make appropriate treatment recommendations. These recommendations are customized based on agreed upon goals and desired outcomes. Treatment recommendations may consist of physical therapy, injections, diagnostic tests, medications, and/or referral for surgical evaluation as needed.
Dr. Hughes is double board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. Also, he has experience practicing regenerative medicine which involves using our own internal healing factors such as Platelet rich plasma and stem cells to heal damaged joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Dr. Hughes envisions a clinic that promotes spine and musculoskeletal health and wellness, with a mission to provide a large variety of evidence-based treatment options that have been shown to decrease pain, improve function, and quality of life.
Dr. Hughes continues to stay current on the latest treatment options for his patients by reading the literature, attending conferences, and acquiring more advanced procedural skills.
Dr. Hughes was raised in Citronelle, Alabama. Dr Hughes is a devoted Christian. His proudest accomplishment is being a dedicated husband and loving father of three very active children. Outside of medicine, Dr. Hughes is passionate about teaching Bible study and exploring the world in pursuit of his passion, landscape photography.
