Dr. Patel is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Interventional Pain physician who specializes in treating a variety of chronic pain conditions. He has extensive experience in treating degenerative conditions of the spine, multiple arthritic conditions, cancer pain and other chronic pain disorders. He believes in a multi-modal approach to treatment, which includes non-surgical interventional treatments, medical management, physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Dr. Patel was raised in southwest Virginia and spent significant time in Gwinnett County as a child. He attended the University of Virginia, where he obtained a degree in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry. For medical school, he elected to attend Eastern Virginia Medical School, graduating in 2005. He then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Health Systems, one of the top anesthesiology programs in the country. Dr. Patel finished his post-graduate training at the prestigious Interventional Pain Management program at Emory University in 2010.

Since completing his training, Dr. Patel had the honor to serve as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Emory where he helped train future pain physicians and participated in research. From 2011 to 2013, Dr. Patel practiced in Griffin and Stockbridge, GA . As a physician there he specialized full-time in treating chronic and acute pain syndromes in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He also participated in innovative research and clinical trials to offer his patients the most advanced forms of treatment.

Dr. Patel now wants to bring his experience in treating the most difficult pain syndromes to his own pain center. His special interventional interests include facet neurotomy for spinal arthritis pain, minimally invasive herniated disc decompression, radio-frequency ablation for neuropathic pain, and spinal cord stimulation for failed back surgery syndrome.

Dr. Patel has presented abstracts at the American Society of Regional Anesthesia meetings, as well as the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Patel also serves as community faculty at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) Suwannee campus. He enjoys teaching the future generation of physicians and giving back to Gwinnett County.

Dr. Patel serves as Chief of Pain Management at DeKalb Medical. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Spine Intervention Society and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. Dr. Patel serves on the board of directors for Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He was recently recognized as an “Industry Physician Leader to Know” for 2016 by Becker’s Healthcare ASC Review. Dr. Patel has been selected to Medtronic Emerging Leader program in the field of interventional pain. He is one of 30 Interventional Pain Physicians selected around the United States. He looks forward to helping patients with chronic pain in Lawrenceville, Lilburn, John’s Creek, Cumming, Braselton, Decatur, Lithonia and all surrounding areas of Atlanta, Georgia.
