In an effort to bring our patients the best possible care, Summit Spine & Joint Centers strives to implement new medical procedures and practices. One of these more recent additions to our treatment options is Superion® Vertiflex, a minimally invasive procedure with proven results.

Superion® Vertiflex Offers New Treatment Option for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Superion® Fills the Gap in the Treatment Continuum

The Superion® Indirect Decompression System (IDS) is a new, minimally invasive procedure clinically proven to be effective in the treatment of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) symptoms; an FDA approved stand-alone device for the treatment of moderate lumbar spinal stenosis.

What Is Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS)?

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a spinal condition that develops gradually with aging. As we age, changes occur in the size and shape of our spinal canal. This natural process can lead to anatomical transformations any time in life, but is most common among people 50 years of age and older.

Superion® Is Clinically Shown to Be Effective for Up to 60 Months

The Superion IDS provides patients with LSS a safe and effective alternative when conservative treatment has failed and laminectomy is too aggressive. The device is delivered through a small tube about the size of a dime with no resection of anatomical structures and minimal blood loss. This procedure can be completed in an outpatient setting and general anesthesia is not required.

Superion is clinically shown to be effective for up to 60 months. Superion’s effectiveness is demonstrated in the most extensive device clinical trial ever conducted on lumbar spinal stenosis: prospective, randomized, controlled, multi-center, with 470 patients at 29 clinical sites. Among those patients in the clinical trial that were followed up through 60 months after surgery, almost all expressed overall satisfaction and significant reduction in clinical symptoms.

Are You a Candidate?

Patients presenting with the following may be a potential candidate for the Superion IDS:

  • Debilitating pain in your buttock, leg and groin area.

  • Feelings of numbness, cramps, weakness or stiffening in your buttocks or legs.

  • Difficulty walking, movement or standing, that goes away with you bending at the waist or sitting down.
