People who live with back pain due to degenerative disc disease are often in chronic discomfort, and may even experience leg pain as the result of pinched nerves. For patients who have not experienced pain relief with conventional therapies, the Elliquence Disc-FX® System may help.
Disc-FX® Offers Minimally Invasive Degenerative Disc Therapy
Disc-FX is a method of minimally invasive degenerative disc therapy. During the procedure, your provider will use a needle to safely access your injured disc without causing any damage to the surrounding area. A tube is then inserted and the needle removed. A device called Trigger-Flex® is used to decompress the disc and correct the herniation. This device is also used to close any tears in the disc. Safe and effective, Disc-FX has the ability to quickly reduce pain using several therapeutic techniques in just one treatment.
How to Know If You Qualify for the Procedure
If you have back pain due to degenerative disc disease and have tried other treatments with no success, you may qualify for Disc-FX. Even if you’re facing surgery and Disc-FX does not provide relief, you still have the option of pursuing other treatment options.
For patients that have lumbar disc herniations and are experiencing lower back pain or even leg pain, Disc-FX may be able to help you even if other conventional therapies have failed. Your provider at Summit Spine & Joint can let you know if you qualify for this innovative treatment!
What to Expect With the Disc-FX® System
Disc-FX is an outpatient procedure that’s performed under local anesthesia. While patients will need to remain at the facility after the procedure for observation, they can go home the same day.
You’ll get an exam and have your medical history reviewed prior to your procedure appointment, including diagnostics such as an MRI, to determine if you would benefit from the therapy. During this procedure, a tiny incision is made so your provider can access your damaged disc and perform the therapy. Most patients are able to return to their normal routine within a few days after the procedure. You’ll need to come in for a follow-up appointment, and then begin physical therapy within a week or so following the procedure.
For many patients, their symptoms are reduced or eliminated within 14 days. Your provider can let you know more about what to expect with the Disc-FX System if you decide to pursue this treatment option.
